KTF is the umbrella body that brings together private sector players in the tourism sector in Kenya. Its main mandate is to advocate for policies and regulations that promote an enabling environment for the sustainability, growth and expansion of the tourism industry in Kenya. Its membership is drawn from 7 associations which bring together the stakeholders in the industry. These are:-
- Kenya Association of Tour Operators (KATO)
- Kenya Association of Hotel Keepers and Caterers (KAHC)
- Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA)
- Kenya Association of Air Operators (KAAO)
- Eco Tourism Kenya (EK)
- Pubs, Entertainment and Restaurants Association of Kenya (PERAK)
- Kenya Coast Tourism Association (KCTA)
KTF runs the Tourism Safety and Communication Centre (KTF-SCC). This centre operates 24hours daily and receives and disseminates to the tourism sector players information relating to tourist safety and security within the country and also co-ordinates with government agencies, foreign missions and other relevant organisations in the unlikely event that an incident involving a tourist occurs.
KTF hosts the East African Tourism Platform which brings together the private sector stakeholders from the 5 EAC partner states of Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. KTF is an active member of the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA).
